A legal case for Implant treatment: A man from the South west receives £12,000 after dental decay was left untreated and he received poorly fitted implants.
A 55 year old man from the South West has received a £12,000 out of court settlement after two dentists failed to treat decay in his teeth, and one provided him with disastrous mini implants.
Our client Mr R, visited his first dentist Dr I in 2007, and over the next 2 years Mr R underwent a number of treatments with Dr I including the provision of 2 mini implants, and 2 crowns. During the two years that Mr R visited his dentist he returned on several occasion complaining of pain at the teeth that Dr I had treated. After visiting an Emergency out-of-hours dentist due to the pain and swelling that he was suffering, Mr R then visited a second dentist Dr A. Dr A diagnosed an abscess at one of Mr R’s teeth and proceeded to allow the tooth to drain. Mr R then returned to this new dentist on 3 separate occasions in the space of 6 days due to unresolved pain. Dr A was unable to treat the recurring pain that Mr R was suffering on his treated teeth and resorted to removing his tooth, without providing Mr R with any other treatment options.
It was not until Mr R visited a third dentist in 2010 when it was discovered that he had significant problems with his teeth. Our client had experienced trauma to one of his teeth due to an ill fitting crown that Dr I had provided, which also had decay present underneath it. Mini implants were provided which were at a disastrous angle and would need to be removed and Mr R would need to have to undergo a bone graft.
Due to the lack of skill that both of Mr R’s dentist’s showed in their execution of the treatment he received, Mr R has avoidably lost one of his teeth, had to have his implants removed and will require restoration at another of his teeth.
The two dentists did not admit liability; however Mr R was successfully able to recover £12,000 compensation. He commented ‘the lack of care that I received was truly shocking, however I am pleased that I have got a successful result, thanks to DLP.’
