South West woman wins £15,000 in compensation after unnecessary and costly cosmetic dental treatment
Miss L approached her dentist, Dr H, about restoration treatment to correct chipped teeth. Rather than advising her of the more appropriate – and vastly less expensive – direct composite restorations available, Dr H advised Miss L that she would need veneers, which were inappropriate due to the low level of damage to Miss L’s teeth.
Trusting her dentist as we all would, Miss L then paid for and underwent unnecessary veneer preparation, inflicting severe and irreversible damage to six of her front teeth. These will now need to be restored with expensive veneers rather than the much more affordable composite restorations.
Dr H also provided a below standard root canal treatment for Miss L, which resulted in intermittent discomfort, pain and swelling as well as an infection. This means the root canal treatment will need to be repeated and a crown will need to be fitted, creating more cost and discomfort.
Unhappy with Dr H’s treatment, Miss L came to the Dental Law Partnership to see if she was able to make a claim. Our expert team of solicitors took up her case and fought for compensation to recoup her costs, pay for restoration work and make up for the pain and suffering she has undergone. She was awarded £15,000.
