Through theBridge the Gapcampaign, the Dental Law Partnership support a change in the law to establish that dental professionals must have professional liability insurance or indemnity cover to cover their dental practice and provide reassurance to all dental patients.
DLP’s campaign states that a new law is required to compel dentists and other dental care professionals to provide clear information regarding their professional liability cover before treatment is provided. The Dental Law Partnership want the Regulator, the General Dental Council, to publish detailed and full information about cover so that patients can have treatment in safety.
The new legislation should also impose a statutory duty of co-operation with patients and patient representatives upon the insurers and indemnifiers of all dental care professionals to make sure that in the event of a claim, the interests of patients are protected.
