A woman from the South East of England has successfully sued her dentist for £10,000 with the help of the Dental Law Partnership.
Mrs D had been going to the same dentist for check-ups between 2008-2010 and trusted Dr A when he suggested that she undergo implant surgery to replace her existing upper denture.
It wasn’t until 2010 that Mrs D decided to proceed with a 10 unit bridge and 6 implants – a considerable amount of dental surgery that would need serious forward planning on her dentist’s part. 6 implants were eventually placed in the upper left and upper right quadrants, involving extensive surgery and the installation of 6 titanium rods into her jawbone. In addition a bridge was fitted once the implants had healed.
Unfortunately for Mrs D, Dr A put his patient at risk by not conducting a periodontal exam.
A year later when Mrs D visited a new dentist after her crown in the upper arch had chipped, more problems were soon to follow. Yet it wasn’t until 2012 when Mrs D complained about her bridge becoming loose that her new dentist advised that it was in fact ill-fitting and an inappropriate design.
Eventually her original dentist’s work created more problems as one implant and a crown fell out soon after.
It was found that Mrs D was suffering from bone loss around the implants and the bridge was rife with defects. Due to her original dentist’s failure to perform a routine periodontal exam, no one knew that she was an inappropriate candidate for any type of implant surgery.
Mrs D now will have to face the loss of 4 more implants and have to have her bridge removed.
After instructing the expert dental negligence solicitors at the Dental Law Partnership to take on her case, they successfully sued her original dentist for £10,000. After years of suffering with poor dental work, Mrs D’s compensation claim will go a long way in helping her get the high standard of dental treatment she deserves.
