• Dentist’s failure to spot tooth decay leads to man losing teeth.
• Excruciating pain and repeat root canal treatments
• “The relationship with my pregnant girlfriend suffered due to constant tooth pain”
In March 2016 Mr E attended an appointment with his dentist Dr D due to a filling falling out. An X-ray was taken and his dentist said everything looked fine.
A new filling was fitted and Mr E thought that was the end of it.
A week later Mr E had to make an appointment at an emergency dentist complaining of pain around the filling. Mr E had another X-ray and was told there was decay on two of his teeth and was given the option of having root canal treatment or an extraction. Our client decided to have root canal treatment as he did not want to lose his teeth. A few days later Mr E returned to his normal dentist to have his root canal treatment completed in May 2016.
Then a week later our client attended another appointment due to pain in another tooth on the other side of his mouth, his dentist also failed to spot this tooth decaying and gave our client another filling without treating the decay.
5 months later Mr E saw a new dentist because he was in excruciating pain, and he was told that one of his teeth would need extracting due to the severity of the decay and poor root canal treatment, he was told that the tooth decay had gone untreated for so long by his dentist and that this could have been avoided if it was spotted earlier.
7 months later another of Mr E’s teeth had to be extracted due to untreated decay.
As a result of Dr D’s failings Mr E experienced significant pain and trauma, lost two teeth and needed unnecessary repeat root canal treatments.
“The Whole ordeal was terrible I had trouble eating and sleeping, it was awful.”
“I became so dependent on taking pain killers, my relationship with my pregnant girlfriend suffered as I was so irritated and in pain, I became so depressed, angry and lonely. I had to keep taking days off work to attend all the appointments when I look back now it seems ridiculous”
“I couldn’t enjoy any activity, I couldn’t walk my dog or go food shopping, I struggled with the school run”
“You trust your dentist knows what he is doing, I feel like I’ll never trust a dentist again,”
