In what can only be described as a chilling case of negligence, a woman from the south East of England has been awarded £16,000 in compensation after her dentist not only performed poor surgery but snapped two instruments off in her tooth and then failed to tell her.
Dr O was trusted by Mrs I to take care of her dental health for a period of over 4 years, during which time her dentist caused more damage than good. After frequent visits to her dentist, poor work eventually led her to seek a second opinion, when it was found that Mrs I’s dental health had been left in jeopardy.
Between the years 2007-2011, Dr O failed to treat decay in 3 of Mrs I’s teeth. Furthermore her dentist failed to provide adequate root canal treatments at 3 teeth, and provided poor fillings at 2 teeth. In a horrible twist of dental negligence that would not look out of place in a horror film, Dr O snapped 2 instruments off in Mrs I’s tooth and then did not tell her what had happened.
As a result of this negligence and the poor calibre of treatment provided Mrs I lost 3 teeth and will lose another one in the future. In addition, she had to have teeth taken out under general anaesthetic due to the severity of the decay.
After Mrs I approached The Dental Law Partnership, the expert dental negligence solicitors sprang into action gathering the evidence needed to build a compensation claim against her former dentist. The claim resulted in an award of £16,000 which will ensure Mrs I has access to the dental treatment she should have had in the first place. Although this cannot give her back the teeth she has lost, the compensation will help to ease the cost of future treatments and compensate for her pain and suffering.
