When Mr L approached his dentist with regards to having crown and bridge work carried out, he thought he was putting his smile in the hands of a competent professional. Dr B, however, displayed gross negligence that caused pain, suffering and distress to Mr L, as well as making further treatment necessary.
Dr B failed to carry out a basic examination to investigate the possibility of gum disease before providing two sets of bridges on the top and bottom teeth. The bridgework in each set, encompassed eight teeth each, which was inadvisable due to the much higher risk of failure. Due to the poor design and fit, Mr L found himself in a lot of pain and unable to chew his food properly, causing even more suffering.
When he approached another dentist, Mr L was made aware of all of the issues and discovered the full extent of Dr B’s negligence. He was advised that all of the bridgework would need replacing and this treatment was carried out satisfactorily.
After being instructed by Mr L, The Dental Law Partnership made a claim for compensation against Dr B, resulting in an award of £20,000. This amount has covered the cost of the treatment and will go some way to making up for all of the pain and suffering caused.
