Since childhood Miss K had regularly attended her dentist, Dr D. She trusted him and his opinion on what treatments would be best for her as she had spent her childhood and part of her adult life going to him with any dental issues.
Dr D provided Miss K with root canal treatment and at the time the procedure seemed to go well and Miss K was unaware of any problems occurring.
It wasn’t until a decade later that Miss K started to suffer and the problems from the root canal treatment surfaced. Miss K started to experience episodes of pain at the lower right side of her jaw over several months. The pain went on for a considerable amount of time and at one point while on holiday in France she had to attend an emergency dentist due to the pain that she was dealing with.
Upon returning from holiday and still in pain Miss K went to another dentist to see if they could help. It was at this visit that the tooth was found to be severely infected due to an instrument which had been left behind from the root canal treatment all those years ago.
Miss K commented, ‘You expect the best level of care from your dentist, especially when you have been going for check-ups with them for so long! I feel let down by someone I trusted for all those years!’
Due to the infection and the retained instrument Miss K has had to have the tooth extracted and now requires a dental implant.
Miss K approached the Dental Law Partnership about her experience and successfully received £10,000 compensation. If you, or someone you know, have experienced what you believe to be dental negligence or if you feel let down by your dentist, contact us today on 0808 271 6955.
