Our client, a 38 year old woman from the South East, has recently been awarded £17,500 in an out of court settlement after her dentist provided 4 root canal treatments of a very poor standard.
Mrs A, who had attended the defendant’s practice since 1996, successfully sued her dentist Dr K after losing 2 teeth and undergoing repeat root canal treatment on 3 teeth as a result of Dr K’s substandard root canal work.
Mrs A first found out something was wrong after she visited a different dentist at the same surgery with an abscess at one of her teeth. She was informed that in addition to the abscess the tooth was very poorly root treated and it would need to be repeated. Problems didn’t stop there for Mrs A. She was referred to a specialist and told that 3 of her lower teeth and one of her upper teeth were also root filled to a very poor standard and that she would have to undergo repeat treatment on 2 teeth and have the other 2 extracted.
Although Dr K denied liability for her poor treatment, the claim which the Dental Law Partnership helped Mrs A win against Dr K, demonstrates that the dentist in this case failed to adhere to the protocols for root canal treatment, as well as taking on work beyond her abilities.
Mrs A will use the damages to replace the two lost teeth with implants and to have crowns placed on the teeth which were poorly root treated by Dr K.
