Mrs L was horrified to learn that the three crowns which Dr S had previously provided were of an unsatisfactory standard and would need to be replaced, and that the root fillings previously provided at the two lower front teeth were unsatisfactory.

Mr I attended the dental hospital in October 2006 complaining of a burning sensation to the lower left lip and tingling pain. There had been a general failure by Dr A to diagnose and treat decay and adequately restore a number of teeth, and of the teeth that had decay 6 were treated badly with root canal treatment and as a result of this poor treatment will need to be extracted.

The nine courses of antibiotics she was prescribed and the extraction of her tooth were also completely unnecessary.

Analysis of her dental records revealed that Dr Fordham had failed to spot and treat decay clearly visible in X-rays taken as far back as December 2015. He had also failed to recognise and treat an infection. As a result of Dr Fordham’s poor treatment, Mrs Hall’s tooth decayed to such an extent it had to be extracted. The dentist then even botched the extraction by failing to carry it out with due skill and care, leaving the tooth’s roots in situ instead of removing them. Because of Dr Fordham’s treatment Mrs Hall has experienced severe pain, infection and swelling for no reason. She now faces extensive corrective treatment.
