Our client, a 51 year old man from the North of England, has recently been awarded £20,000 in an out of court settlement after the defendant failed to diagnose and treat his gum disease condition.
Mr B, who had been a regular attendee at Dr M’s practice since 2002, first found out that he was suffering from gum disease after a visit to another dentist in 2009 revealed that he had lost a lot of bone around his teeth and was suffering from an advanced form of periodontal (gum) disease.
Mr B had visited the new dentist for a consultation about implants. It was under this new dentist’s care that he was also told that the prognosis was very poor for his UL4, a tooth which had been root treated by Dr M in 2003. He was also told that his UL6, another tooth which had been root treated by Dr M, was very decayed and would need to be extracted.
While Dr M denied liability, the Dental Law Partnership successfully brought a case of dental negligence against Dr M and Mr B was awarded £20,000 in damages. Mr B intends to use the compensation to have repeat root canal treatment at UL4 followed by a crown, and to have implants fitted to replace the teeth which he has lost due to the gum disease which was untreated by Dr M.
