Dental care on holiday

Sunshine is calling your name. After what feels like the longest winter ever, you’ve booked in your summer getaway and can’t wait to soak in the summer rays. Whether you’ve pencilled in a staycation in the UK this year or you’re going aboard for a better guarantee of heat, you should always make sure you’re keeping on top of your oral and dental care on holiday.

Holiday Preparation

It’s not on everyone’s list to book a dental appointment before they go on holiday. But it’s always advisable, as this ensures any existing oral, teeth or gum related issues can be addressed before they worsen and potentially ruin your holiday plans. But accidents can happen, so a good tip is always to pack your GHIC card and more importantly take out travel insurance wherever you are travelling to, as this can sometimes cover any dental emergencies you may need, always check your travel insurance policy details to understand what dental coverage your policy extends to.

Packing the essentials

Its important whilst on holiday to maintain your normal dental health routine, take your toothbrush, your toothpaste, mouthwash, and any dental cleaning equipment you use regularly – as these may not be as easily acquired on holiday. We all know what holiday supermarkets are like, so even if you’re just packing a small travel sized dental pack, its better to be prepared.

Stay Hydrated

The overseas climate is very different to the UK, so staying hydrated is even more of a necessity. Did you know? A dry mouth can increase your risk of plaque build-up, keeping yourself hydrated in the sun will benefit your oral health in the long run.

Your dental health is an important indicator for your overall health and well-being. You can read about this direct link and learn more about this in our “Oral Health” blog linked here.
