Our client, a 46 year old woman from North East of England, has recently been awarded £17,500 in an out-of-court settlement after the defendant failed to spot and treat periodontal disease causing bone and tooth loss.
Mrs B, had visited Dr C’s surgery for nearly 10 years until a routine appointment in 2009 raised concerns for our client after she started complaining of pain, swelling and recession of the gum. After visiting another dentist for an examination, it was discovered that she was suffering with gum disease which had been missed by her former dentist for over 10 years.
Under the new dentist’s care, Mrs B was advised that she needed periodontal treatment, two teeth would need to be removed and replaced and she would need a scale polish every three to four months.
Dr C neither admitted nor denied liability but the Dental Law Partnership was able to successfully settle Mrs B’s Dental Negligence claim. Mrs B now intends to use her compensation for future treatment of her periodontal disease.
